Houser Group
About the Houser Group
My laboratory relies on inorganic chemistry to answer fundamental questions relevant to industry, medicine, the environment, and global warming. My research program is divided into two main areas of emphasis: bioinorganic chemistry and coordination polymers chemistry. Both research areas are unified by their underlying goals and methods. We seek to contribute to the fundamental understanding of the chemistry in these two disparate areas that range from the biological sciences to materials sciences. At the heart of each research program lie the syntheses and characterization of new transition metal complexes. Although the end products are quite different, both projects include: the organic synthesis of new ligands; the synthesis of new transition metal complexes with late transition metals (zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt, iron, and manganese); and characterization of these complexes using a wide range of modern techniques.
